McKinley’s ditty bags…

When McKinley Childress called me to ask if I’d make ditty bags for her and her bridesmaids my answer was, of course,  yes.  I asked about the details of her wedding — and asked her to take me through what colors she wanted to incorporate. She talked about the wanting her wedding decor loose and elegant, nothing too structured. She (like me) adores vintage fabrics because of their history.

She wanted natural colors and wanted each bag to be meaningful to the girls in her wedding. We decided to ask each bridesmaid to send me a piece of fabric that was special to them. Each ditty bag was designed with her friends in mind, and each bag was lined with a the chosen materials… we had everything from an Austin City Limits t-shirt to a loved anthropologie tunic to a bridesmaid dress that McKinley had worn in one of her bridesmaids’ wedding.

For McKinley I used scraps of lace from a vintage wedding dress and lined it with light blue fabric for her something blue. Inside I embroidered her wedding date just as a little reminder for the years to come.

Here are a few photos of the ditty bags…

Special thanks to Jen Fariello for this first photo… taken at Pippin Hill Farm.
